Please Remain Seated Until the Fasten Your Seatbelt Light Turns Off

I was driving home from Home Teaching today and a thought hit me. Why is it that when planes are taking off or landing, they make you move the seat into the upright locked position? The amount of inclination is just a few insignificant degrees of rotation. And if the plane buys the farm (pilot speak for crash), its not like a few inches difference in the configuration of your seat is going to make a difference. These are cramped airline seats, not Lazy Boy recliners.
